Appreciating this refreshing drink is just about as easy as appreciating summer. It’s simple, minty-fresh, and a perfect way to cool down with friends.
To honor National Mojito Day on July 11th, we’re giving you a couple ways to make your mojito during your next backyard party. Keep reading!
The traditional way
Remember the saying, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it? The same holds true here. The traditional mojito has been around since the 1930’s and has carried itself into present day for a reason. The five ingredient cocktail quenches every throat and puts a smile on tingling lips.
The best way to make it is the same way it was originated- with respect and care. The basic recipe calls for rum, sugar, mint leaves, club soda, and lime- similar to the daiquiri. To get that cool, breath of fresh air, stick to the recipe, no substitutes!
The kid friendly way
Kids can’t join in on everything, but when having a summer party in your Sarasota backyard, why not have a virgin activity the kids can participate in? The great thing about this drink is, although it won’t taste exactly the same, there is a kid-friendly way to make it.
One tip we highly recommend is having separate drink stations. Put the supervised kid's station outside, and the adults inside. This way, if the kids make a mess it won’t matter, and- more importantly- you won’t have to worry about ingredients getting mixed up.
This recipe calls for water, sugar, mint, club soda, and lime. Have an adult make the drink, but have the kids help with muddling the mint leaves. What kid doesn’t love smashing things?
The Sarasota way
The Sarasota lifestyle is different from most, so it’s only natural to have a mojito that matches. This version of the mojito is still deliciously simple, but with a zing of fruity surprise! Take your classic ingredients, but add cucumber and strawberries when you’re muddling the mint.
For a change of scenery, add a splash of grapefruit juice to liven up the color and cut the sweetness. It’s also a fun idea for guests to get involved in the process. Like we said before, have friendly drink stations where it’s not only easy but fun, for guests to make their own mojito. This way, you don’t have to worry about pleasing everyone’s taste-buds because they can alter it the way they like. We are confident this drink will be a hit at your next party!
